ANNOTATIONS

WEB CONTENT CREATION (MOOD BOARD)

Naturally, I am always drawn to bright colours because they are believed to represent happiness and joy, therefore, most of my passions in life in corporate these colours in some way. For the fonts, my handwriting is quite old school in terms of joining up/looping all my letters etc, so I think that is why I am automatically drawn to this sort of style. Additionally, I am quite an artistic person, so I included images that represent that side of me. I have always grown-up loving sports, as I see it as a form of self-care. Along with this, recently I have fallen in love with cooking, as I like to know I am nourishing my body correctly whilst enjoying the food I consume. Other images such as books, dogs, photography and travelling are also representations of my passions. The stickers I have used to create a more playful look for my mood board, are just to portray my ‘aesthetic’. I found all these images on Pinterest and created my web content creation via PowerPoint as I felt it was the most efficient and easiest way to control my display of images.

I am really happy with how my mood board turned out, and for future work, I will have the same approach as I did for this.

CREATIVE WRITING

Originally, for the creative writing task, I wanted to do a poem as I knew I did a short story for Element 1 and wanted to switch it up. However, I quickly become worried about the length of my poem, and how I would reach the 600-word count in the brief. For that reason, I fell back onto my safety option of a short story.

Even though I have only got into cooking recently, I have grown up with a father who has adored it. Therefore, to me, cooking is about family and friends. I knew as soon as I started writing that I wanted to create a family gathering scene. In terms of the main story plot, I struggled at first for ideas. However, a few days before writing my piece, my boyfriend’s dog passed away and we spent a couple of days reminiscing, which inspired me to include Cadbury in my writing, and show my audience how special he was.

I am really happy with how my story turned out and the creative writing skills I have displayed, however, to improve in the future, I am going to bullet point my ideas and writing options and also, try to write in a different format instead of a short story, to push myself out of my comfort zone and try something different.

AUDIO

The audio was by far the most stressful part of Element 2 for me. Admittedly, at first I didn’t fully read the brief right, and therefore wrote a whole production plan but only including one voice. Once speaking to my friends and realising two voices was a compulsory, I re wrote my production plan and started to prepare. I chose to interview my dad because of how much he has inspired my cooking journey.

As you can see in my edit sheets, we had a lot of bloopers, which were all mainly me slipping up and stuttering towards the end. It took us so long to complete, and we both were getting inpatient.

When recording all of these, I was using an app called VoiceRecorder, which after listening back to our previous takes, I realised the sound quality wasn’t good or professional. Therefore, I switched to an app called Audacity, and I was much happier with the results. For the background music, I used iMovie, because I am comfortable with how to use it, and like the music options.

In the future, I am definitely going to use Audacity straight away as it will save me a lot of time, and produces amazing content.

FILM/VIDEO

In both Element 1 and 2, I have struggled with the film/video content. I am much more of a writing/theory-based person when it comes to educational purposes. Also, I am not comfortable using a camera, as I wouldn’t know how to use it properly and then edit, but on the flip side, I know that using a phone doesn’t give it the same professional finish. I also struggled to include all of the components on the brief – but I am hoping my final piece of work has reached all necessity’s.

I chose to film my dad cook and asked him to produce something that would create lots of sizzling noises etc to include in the sound of my video. At first, I only recorded him making a fajita, however, with the sort time frame of 30-60 seconds, I could not fit in each step, no matter how much I tried editing it. My resolution to this was to film him making something else, which ended up being an omelette, and making more of a ‘montage’ style film.

I edited on iMovie again, including the typography and background music.

I’m not thrilled with my final piece, as I feel like the quality could be better, so in the future, I will venture out and hire a camera to use as I think it will elevate my work.
